1956 Suez crisis: egypt

In July 1956, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser decided to take the Suez Canal, a vitally important passageway and property of Britain and France, under national ownership. Immediately, this bold move prompted an international crisis as Nasser’s decision had disrupted the long history of European colonialism in Africa. In this crisis committee, delegates will represent members of President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s cabinet, tasked with navigating through war with France and Britain, accomplishing their long-term goal of building a pan-Arab state, and determining their role in the rising Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Prepare to fully immerse yourself in this pivotal moment in world history.
